| Ok I've had my mbk since Friday (27th nov) and have not tried handling, fed her on Monday and she fed fine. I was going to start handling on Friday do you think this would be too soon? I can't wait to hold her! |

A week of hands off time is generally the accepted period needed for a snake to settle in.
To be honest you should not really of fed the snake yet as it would of been stressed from the move and the chances of a regurge would of been greater.
You really should be fine to start handling in small sessions this Friday, although it should only be short handling sessions until the snake is more used to you and fully settled into its new home. |

How long do you mean when you say short sessions? 10 mins? Should I wait a little longer untill next feed then? She just seemed settled already, exploring her viv and climbing up her plants quite a bit.

Yeah, 5 - 10 minutes would be fine at first. :)
If she took the food ok last time then there is really no reason to change your schedule now, just feed on the day she was due to be fed and then follow the two day no handling rule after that to allow her to digest the mouse. |

Lol, I broke the settling in rule myself with Lestat when I bought him,
but followed the handling rules though and it worked a treat. Good Luck mate |

I assume it's better to handle in the evening when she's out and about rather than the morning/afternoon?

just to let you know the handling went fairly well, she was a bit livley and struck and tail rattled the whole time, but did start to calm down just before i put her back. Managed to get a quick pic on my phone aswell! (poor quality - ill get some better ones when she calms down lol)

I am glad it all went well.
Don't let the striking and tail rattling worry you too much, a snake that size couldn't hurt a fly. I just laugh at my feisty little Bairds when it strikes at me. haha
It will settle down in time, i have no doubt about that.
It is a good looking little snake judging by the picture, i look forwards to seeing more of it. :) |

yes i try and laugh when she strikes but she caught me out a few times lol! She actually came to me last night aswell, i opened the viv door about an inch and within minutes she was sticking her head out, held my hand infront of her and out she came, then i think she realised what she'd done and started to panic, trying to get away.. so i put her back. :) great little snake though! |

i am new to snake keeping and kinda broke the rules mainly because i didn't know them i got a viv that was too big i feed the 2nd day and handled from on day of purchases but i seem to have been lucky as she is fine eats fine she hasn't regurgitated and although the viv is abit big for her size atm there's lots of plants and and hides and she seems happy enough exploring and i have been handling her for short periods each day and she seems very comfortable with it always lets me just pick her u without a struggle and such a pretty snake she is too. i like the fact she is out alot thought she would hide away most of the time but she is always out and about altho i am not suggesting breaking the rules but i have quickly learnt not to panic if i accidentally break one like i did at first when i read don't handle for a week ect i was like oh s@%t what if she wont eat but they seem to be tuff and tolerant i have picked up loads of good useful tips off this forum tho deffintly a great source for advice which i should imagine i will be needing in the comeing few weeks till i be ome a snake expert lol :)
