How do you tell a snake that hes supposed to be slowing down for winter and not still hatching a plot to escape at every given opportunity, what do people mean by slowing down is it just the eating that slows down or do they stay in their hides more?

Not all snakes are affected in winter. Jasmin was still the same as usual when I started her brumation, she was eating 2-3 medium mice every week. Sylar, on the other hand, was only eating every 3 to 4 weeks and had gone from 2 rat fuzzies to 1. If you want to brumate your snake then stop feeding him and after 2 weeks start reducing the temperature to around 15C. At this point your snake will be very quiet and stay in his hide for days at a time. If, however you are happy to carry on feeding as usual over the winter and your snake is fine with this then just continue as normal, it won't do him any harm. This is the first year that I am brumating my snakes so I'm still learning too.
