Hi,
Does anyone have any tips for keeping the viv warm this winter? The temp seems to be dropping down now that its got much colder. I'm using two large heatmats one in the viv and one on the back.

| hi guys, viv sie is 36x18x18. she is 3ft, i have got 2 large heat mats, one on the back outside, and one on the inside under a 4mm sheet of mdf, the temp on top of the timber is 34*c, is this to hot? We have got a sticky thermometer on the side at the hot end and that doesnt seem to go above 24*c, so it is sending mixed signals? a bit confused! she is still very active but i have not been able to get her to feed for a few weeks, temp related? cheers guys |

the mat on the back will be pretty useless.........
personally i'd just have the one mat inside covering one half to one third of the floor space and set to about 30*C . if i was that worried about the temperature in the cool end i'd have one in the cool end set to about 22-25*C, each controlled on a thermostat.
not sure why your mat is under 4mm of mdf though? it will insulate the heat away from the snake and make it harder for your mat to reach the desired temperature.
you want your thermometers on the substrate above the heat source so you're measuring the temp where the snake is not on the viv walls measuring the ambient temperature. |
