I have just bought a 6 month old sinaloan milk snake. I am not totally green to snakes have handled them and family members have kept them. However this is my first purchase and viv set up so am bit nervus on getting it right.I have made a few rookie mistakes but don't think they seem to be an issue.
the mistakes i have made are.
*the viv size ( i bought the viv before i selected a snake i bought a 36" wooden vivexotic viv) which i now have read a viv to big can be an issue
*i have handled it the day i got it rather than let it settle in
* the bark i bought coconut bark which doesn't seem to be any any recommended lists.
I was worried it may not eat due to viv size and me handleing it.I have had it 3 days i feed it today and it ate fine. She seems to be exploring the viv alot which i think is good. SheS abit shy to handle but once in hands she is seems fine.
So a couple of question's
Since the snake seems quite happy and is eating, will it be ok to keep it in the 36" viv i have provided alot of hides and shrubs and vines and branches as i went for the jungle theme ?
As I used coconut bark simply as i liked the color it was dark matched my jungle theme but on reading up online everywhere seems to advice aspen bark instead is coconut bark ok or should i change it ?
anyway i am well pleased with my snake and although its a female its called Chester:)
hi and welcome. coconut bark should be fine. as for the viv size you may kee it large but pack it full of hides and fake plant. if feed does become an issue be prepared to use a RUB or something similar.
thats wicked thanks yeah she has plenty of hides and cork bark and plants and vines i was pleased to see it eat straight away the food was only in there 5 mins so am guessing shes pritty happy with her new home.
