This may sound dumb, but would it be possible to moisturize him? |

Not a dumb question at all.
There is a product that you can use to moisturise the snake although i am not sure what it is called in America. In the UK it is called Viscotears and is a carbomer liquid gel. It can help soften the loose shed and make it easier to remove.
I am sorry i cannot help with an american brand name for you.
As for other moisturising products, i would be a little wary of their suitability for a snake. |

It does look like a similar product, yes.
I know it can be used to help remove retained eye caps and i would imagine that the same product would be useful for retained shed of this degree, if it is in fact retained shed.
Modifying slightly what i know about the eye cap removal i would suggest the following.
Apply a layer of the lubricant onto the snake (may be best doing a small area at a time) and leave in a clean, empty plastic tub for 10 minutes or so. Then with a damp towel gently move the lubricant about a little without removing it totally. Place the snake back in the plastic tub for a couple of hours and then with the damp towel see if the shed (again, if it is indeed a retained shed) is looser and more able to be removed. If it isn't a retained shed then it certainly shouldn't do any harm to the snake. |

It just made his skin pretty smooth. I had him soak all day while I was at school and he seemed to look alot of it. I did a little experiment and pulled some off with tweasers and he looks so good where I did. I was extremely gentle about and no harm was done. Any other suggestions to get it off easier? |

The easiest and safest way has already been mentioned, and that is just to soak him for a while in water the same temp as the warm side of his vivarium, then let him slowly slither through a damp rough towel while you apply GENTLE pressure.
It takes time but it is the least damaging and easiest way to get results.
Just be patient with it, do a little at a time and try not to pull the shed off as it can and probably will take the new skin underneath off as well... which would suck. |

Vast improvement -- impressive!
How is he doing otherwise? Has he eaten yet? Still drinking a lot?

Normal drinking habits for the most part, but he has not eaten yet. I think that I am going to schedule an appointment with a vet soon to get him all checked out just to insure that he lives a happy healthy life. |

A vet visit really could not hurt, as long as it is a vet used to dealing with reptiles.
It is great to see that the snake has finally got an owner willing to do what is needed for it, and an owner not scared to ask for advice. :) |

I would say a trip to the vets is a good idea. Keep us posted with progress |

Sorry I haven't been on. I was busy with the holiday. I have a mouse thawing out and I am about to try to feed him. He has been soaking himself and has been moving around alot. I will let you know whether he eats or not. Probably call the vets tomorrow to make an appointment. |
