Strawbs will not do this! At all. I've tried wriggling the mouse once she's had her chops around him, and still nothing.
Does anyone else's kings do this?
To be fair, she's a great girl in general, never caused me any injuries or anything, it's just something i'd like her to do! |

I can't get my Mexian Milk to feed by hand at all. In fact it seems to stress him out. To tell the truth I don't care setting the food in a RUB and letting him eat there, just as long as he's eating. |

Personally, I've found that most if not all Milksnakes I have kept have never constricted. Milksnakes being shy species, It's not really in there nature. I've also found that Milksnakes prefer small items but in a larger amount, possibly the reason why constriction is not necessary, As the snake in question can swallow with no problem what so ever.
Mexican Blacks on the other hand.

Jasmin constricts but Sylar doesn't, just down to individual snakes I think |

thank you for your replies! yeah i assumed it'd have something to do with their nature!
though she's now on small mice, once she's stopped being so scared of them, perhaps she'll start to constrict.
we'll see :) |

Hahaha. Sorry.
I just had an image in my head of a snake screaming because it saw a mouse. |
