Hello everyone, I joined a while back but have not been around much, mainly because of trips and a very long time of remodeling going on in the house, but I've decided to check back in, and ask a question as well.
Morse, my young dot-dash king snake, has been doing very well, but I can't help but feel a bit worried about the way he acts. It seems that he is always hungry. I follow the rule about not handling until after 48 hours after feeding, but even then he's ready to try and chew on my hand/fingers, and he gladly takes two pinkies for every feeding. And when he is out in his cage, even hours after being fed, he will follow my movements and sometimes even strike the glass.
Now, it has been about two months since I acquired him. I do my very best to keep feeding and handling very separate activities so that he doesn't start to associate my hands/smell as food. Is it too soon to start to worry about this? I'm just hoping he'll mellow out as he gets bigger, otherwise the habit is really going to start to hurt.
To end on a less perilous note, I found him curled up in his food dish before a cage cleaning and decided to take pictures (he thankfully didn't feel like trying to take a bite then!). |

| what is the flooring you are using? It looks nice, nice snakey too, I was confused as to why it was called a dot-dash snake until I saw the picture heheh |

This was actually taken outside, and I set his dish down on the grass for a moment. I couldn't get a good picture indoors and didn't want to blind or frighten him with a flash. He was put into his carrier shortly after the picture was taken.
I used aspen shavings in his tank, though. He got moved into a large one about two weeks ago too, and he really seems to like it. |

| Wy not try him on a fuzzy if hes big enough,he should settle down,most snakes go through phases like this |

As above, Try a few more Pinkies for the time being. However, Im sure he can manage a Fuzzie. You haven't a particular unusual behavoured Kingsnake. Nine times out of ten, Kingsnakes have to be one of the most food orientated snakes in the family, if not the most.
Where do you feed him/her? Inside Vivarium?

Oh no, I get him out and put him into a box or a tupperware container(I seem to have lost the latter and am now using a shoebox for the time being). I want to get him into a mindset that he shouldn't expect food in the cage.
I think I will let him graduate to pinky. Thanks so much for the help you guys. |
