Morning all Lucy arrived home last night, she is a mexican black, hardly underweight, and barley dehydrated at all. I reckon they must have had a mouse problem before she escaped!! Not now though! I Love her! Couple of questions 1. what humidity does she need 2. what size viv does she need for life, some care sheets say 2x2x2 some say3x2x2 and some say 4x2x2 Want to get hte right size, please help, am confused! |

I agree- room humidity and 3-4ft viv depending on the size of the snake. It's usually the length of the snake should make up the front and one size of the viv i.e Nagini is big at 5ft+ so he's in a 4ftx1.5ft viv, but Hypanthia is only short at 4ft so she's fine in a 3ftx1ft. How big is Lucy?
(and where's the pics?) |

ok, it is supposedly fixed for today so lets see if this works!
Lucy is great, she is settling very well, had two rat pups last night after a bit of a get to know each other session where she crawled all over me for half an hour. She is amazingly calm, Husband flopped down next to me whilst she was roaming around, and it didn't faze her at all, the corns or the royal would all be like whoa run away!!
She had a little soak last night, but she doesn't seem dehydrated to any worrying degree.
think she must have been eating the local mouse population as well as she is a decent weight, can't see her spine etc, like was expecting!
really chuffed with my new snake, was expecting a skinny frail nervy snake and instead i got a beautiful, calm, healthy snake. Am a jammy so and so! |

There not too rare (a few of us have them on here) and they aren't too expensive (about £80 for an adult), but they are very beautiful and inquisitive so interest a lot of people |

I just count myself very lucky to have gotten such a darling snake for free!! Checked on her last night, without disturbing her, she's fine, using her hide's, drinking water etc, just waiting for her to "go" so that I can send a sample to the vets like he suggested, he said not to bring her in because vets is quite far from my house, 20 miles, and I don't drive, so to send poo sample instead of stressing her further with the journey, and he'll let me know if he needs to see her. Does this sound right to you guys?? |

I'd imagine that will be fine... they should be able to check for parasites and that with the sample... glad to hear she is settling in well :) |

Probably right- if she's alert, a good weight and has no external parasites, then there's only internal parasites that need checking |

Hiya She has done a poo and I have sent it off this morning, it looked just as it should, in light of this do you think it likely that she could have internal parasites? Wouldn't the poo be discoloured or runny or something? Have no experience with internal parasites (thankfully!) so don't know the danger signs. Just impatient to know and the vet said results take a while.
Oh and this morning when I wole up she was sat looking out of her tub watching me sleep, I opened my eyes and there she was, so cute! |

She was probably trying to size you up so she can eat you
NO- I wouldn't say she'd have internal parasites unless it's only a mild invasion. Snakes usually lose weight and go off food if they have them, but it's better to make sure mi'thinks. |
