Just wondering whether this is what my Cali king did when putting her into he heated rub. It was like water coming from the rear and had a bad smell. Will this happen forever, as it does put me off tbh.
The breeder did say that she had outgrown musking. What's your thoughts ? |

Yes, that's musking and it honks doesn't it.
It probably had stopped doing it when with the breeder because it had settled down. Once she re-settles, gets used to you, the new surroundings and scents it will stop.
In the meantime keep the tissues handy and be thankful that yours is still a tiddler. It is even worse with a new large adult. |

Since I kept her in a rub the stench has become unbearable meaning buying a new one and washing her house. Although there's still a stench, should I bathe the snake? Any ideas how to rid the smell? |

What substrate are you using?
I'm not a fan of bathing snakes unless they have actually crawled through something and got mess stuck to them. You could give it a wipe down with a baby wipe.
Put the snake in a temporary secure tub. 2 litre ice cream tub or similar will do. Wipe down the RUB with 10% dilute plain bleach then a good wash down with hot soapy water. Rough dry of with an old towel and leave lid off and let it air dry until no smell of bleach remains. |

Cheers for the advice. Will clean her with a baby wipe. I'm sure she must have went through some defecate at some point |

Yeah I think the excrete must have got baked on the mat and she had slithered through it. The smell was on everything. I Milton it all and at present it's ok. It smelt like strong vinegar and a fishy smell (before Milton). Really strong.
Will give a sniff test today, as she's been in the new vivarium for around 48hr. I'm hoping that the rub was to small and that's why the smell was so bad.
Give me luck, will update later |
