Hi all,

I thought I would start a thread for people to give their opinions and advice on brumation. I think that the advice should include some of the following

how long before brumation should snakes have their last feed
when to start
what temps to keep the snakes at
how often to change water
what to keep the snakes in
things to look out for (potential problems)
when to end brumation
advice on the first feed after brumation

and anything else that I may have missed from the list

Martyn

1.1.0 Arizona mountain king (Sylar and Claire)
0.1.0 Blotched king ( Jasmin)
1.1.0 Guyana red-tail boa (Hercules and Athena)
1.0.1 children (Alfie and BUMP)

This is just from my experience so don't take it as gospel but...

how long before brumation should snakes have their last feed:
about 2-3 weeks to ensure stomach is empty

when to start: mine decide that themselves.
I wait until they become reluctant to eat naturally, then take it from there.

what temps to keep the snakes at:
around 5-8 degrees C or there abouts. Just make sure it remains constant

how often to change water: weekly

what to keep the snakes in:
I leave mine in their viv

things to look out for (potential problems):
activitiy, R.Is

when to end brumation;
about 10-13 weeks after you started

advice on the first feed after brumation:
I leave them until the temps are completely up to normal and then feed them suitably sized item. They are usually ravenous.
