On the 20th March i bought my cali king , he ate on 27th then went into blue & she perfectly, but hasn't eaten since, he has refused twice. The temps are about 86/88f, heat mat at night is set for 85f, substrat is aspen, he has 3 hides, he is an 07, so about 3 years old. He is very active day & night, infact, he is up now at 12.05pm, he is always ready to come out the viv & inquisative. I have tried to think of everything to tell you but if you need more info as to why he is not eating, please ask. I am hoping it is only because of him settling in still! Marg. |

Hi Marg, you haben't told us what you are keeping your cali in but I'm assuming, given the age, that its a 3' viv. The temps are fine in my opinion and from the rest of the info you have given I would say that all is well in terms of habitat so I would say your king has just decided to not eat for a couple of weeks because it just feels like it. When I bought my first king I was told not to worry if he didn't eat for a week or two at a time, although it seems like a long time to us, in snake terms its like missing a snack between meals. You will probably find that he eats in the next couple of weeks so don't worry yet |

Thanks for the reply, he does seem fine in all respects, he also seems very interested in the mouse, even nudges it about & moves it, but just doesn't want to eat it. Yes i am keeping him in a 3ft wooden viv. Thanks again.

If he's still not eating, then I still wouldn't worry about it to much at the moment. So long as he's got plenty of water to drink then he's probably just doing a fast, a king deciding not to eat for a few weeks because he's just moved/feeling horny is quite a common thing actually.

Great news!
I went through the same thing when I first got my Mexican Milk last year. It's such a relief when they finally eat. |
