Posted - 26/04/2009 : 20:52:28 find this on a web site Adobe Kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula nigrita X Lampropeltis getula californiae) To the best of my knowledge, there is not yet an established trade name associated with the cross between the Mexican Black Kingsnake and California Kingsnake. I am going to use the trade name "Adobe Kingsnake" to refer to this cross. Note that there is a natural intergrade range between these two subspecies. The Adobe Kingsnake trade name probably should only refer to the man made captive cross, not the natural cross that has also has the influence of natural selection in the gene flow between the subspecies. The natural locality intergrades undoubtedly will look somewhat different.

Posted - 25/04/2009 : 20:32:21 Did you get her from Ryan up at Jurrassic reps? If it's the one i'm thinking of she's lovely[:) (Had my eye on her a while ago) She'd been up there a while so i think any Major health probs would have come to light but a bit of time away from your others can't hurt.
If you want a viv short term you might be able to borrow our spare/breading viv. (Nothing special but 3ft sliding door jobbie) i'll just have to check with him indoors tomorrow coz one of his friends was after it but keeps messing us about. |

Posted - 25/04/2009 : 18:25:55 was going to put her in my spare viv in the stack, did mention about quarantining to the shop and he said that because he's had her so long it probly not be nessasery,i know she has been there for a couple of months and in the same viv, just means im going to have to get another viv and have not got room anywhere else in the house *scratching head in deep thought* |

Posted - 25/04/2009 : 00:26:17 Definitely quarantine. The last female boa I got developed an RI and I'm still treating her now as it just keeps coming back. She has always been in quarantine and she was always the last snake I handled. If I hadn't quarantined her I couuld be having to treat 3 boas for RI now instead of just the one. |

Posted - 23/04/2009 : 21:24:00 ideally yes, quarantine all new arrivals for 6 months, particularly boids. in reality try to........... for 3 months, ideally in a separate room. handle, feed and check on your new arrival last after you've done your current snakes. and make sure no equipment is shared. |

Posted - 22/04/2009 : 20:37:22 I think im going to get the albino as she's gorgeous but not for breeding with the mbk,i like magneticblue's idea. |

Posted - 22/04/2009 : 19:56:58 I would not cross-breed the two species. A shop in Manchester bred a mexi with a cali king to produce "mexicalis" as they called them. They did not seem to sell so well and I didn't think they looked as good as the parents would have. |
