Hey up mate.
I'm getting my first baby Kingsnake next week. This will be my first snake aswell. Mine is a black and white stripe i think. I'll get some pictures up when i get him/her. Do you know the sex of yours yet? These guy's on here seem great, they have answered a lot of my questions.

heya and welcome i think i've seen pics of the type of king you've described, i think it's an albino but there's probably a more technically correct name - yellow banding but white where most are black or brown, very distinctive! |

Hi Darren,
Yes that is not unusual behaviour for any young snake after they have been moved to a new environment. First thing my young Cali King did was bite me and he wouldn't let go for a 5 minutes!
I would recommend you put your new snake in its viv in a quiet area / room, away from vibrations (they are deaf but very sensitive to any vibration). Away from the PC might be wise if you spend a lot of time on the computer. Tempting though it may be I would not disturb her at all, not even to peek at, for 5-7 days. Then offer her a feed and leave her for 2 days to digest it. After that, start handling her in short periods (eg 5 mins top) except on the first 48 hours after each feed. As a baby one feed every 5-7 days will be sufficient. Follow these "rules" and she will soon start to settle down and be less flighty when handled.
Hope that helps and enjoy your snake. |

heya and welcome at 3 years old she's pretty much an adult and ideally should be fed about weekly, give or take a day or so. if she's used to being handled she should be fine after her week of settling in, but i know it's really hard to leave them alone for a whole week! just check she's still there and change her water, keeping contact to a bare minimum.
or course sometimes it doesn't quite work out like that - when i first bought my Dumerils boa i had all good intentions but she tipped her water everywhere within 24 hours and did so on a daily basis until i got her a bigger bowl, so i had to handle her to keep mopping out the RUB, lol |

Oh she's an adult! In that case feeding every 10-14 days should be adequate.
