About 5 days ago we noticed our snakes vibrant colours begin to full and his eyes starting to turn blue. Yesterday wen we woke up we noticed his eyes were going black again but his skin still looking a little bit dull, but brighter than a few days previous. Is this normal in shedding or was it a false alarm?

this is all normal... they go clear again for a day or 2 ebfore the actual shed takes place, hope his shed goes without any hassle... i like to put a moist hide in with my snakes when they go blue as they can use this to help the skin be mosturised and thus have a cleaner shed...

Hope that helps

he has often been using his water dish to bath in and generally does look and feel in good condition. We will do what we can to help him shed because we go away for a week in 9 days and i dont think my parents would know what to do after he has shed. You have been good help i was expecting this process to take longer

Won't be long now. Its great when your snake sheds for the first time...and the second time...and the third...

glad to hear it :) if you measure its length to see how long jake is then dont forget to take 10% off and the skin stretches when being shed...

dont pet shops feed them properly? We was told where we got him from to feed him 1 pink and we looked on his feed sheet and it says they fed him every 7 days which obviously wasnt enough for him. They didnt tell us much about how to keep him either so we read up as much as we could on the internet before we bought him and then joined this group to get more information on keeping him from more experienced keepers

its not that they starve them or anything but they do feed less than you would want to at home as they want to keep feeding costs down and if you have snakes growing too quickly then you also need to upgrade their housing earlier...

Hi Jo & Danny,

Keeping a Snake in a smaller vivarium/tub will not stunt there growth, it will however restrict there behaviour, Have difficulty thermoregulating. If the tubs were extremely small, this will give the snake stress, which then probably result to not feeding properly. The 'Little Boxes' are great for housing snakes, especially if you have lots and little room. They are very easily to clean and as mentioned, alot smaller then vivariums.

But Like fish, it is not true Fish/Snakes grow to the size of the tank/vivarium/tub.

Kind Regards,
Scott

Pet shops put snakes on a maintenance diet so they have enough to eat to love, but not enough to grow at their normal rate so you will probably see quite a lot of growth at the moment.

Did you check the skin to make sure that the eye caps and the tip of the tail came of OK? They can sometimes be a problem but not often
