Hello there. At the minute my Mexican Milk is eating nothing but rat pups. I was told that if he could get one down in 5 minutes then it was time for a step up to small mice or a rat fluff. I tried feeding him a rat fluff a couple of weeks ago, and he did start to eat but then backed off. Presumably he thought it was too big for him.
I can't get him to go near mice at all though. I've tried scenting and leaving him overnight with it, but he still refuses.
Last night I defrosted him a rap pup and a fluffy mouse, with the intention of braining the rat pup, and then scenting the fluff. The picky little bugger took a sniff at the mouse and wouldn't go near it. I then threw the rat pup in with him, and he proceeded to dive on it.

Is one rat pup a week enough for him though? A few times I have gave him two, but I've been told that they are two high in fat for him.

Anyone any ideas what to do?

I know people say not to feed rats to kings and corn because they are higher in fat than mice but as long as you keep him active i think he should be ok.Try missing a couple of feeds and see if his hunger gets the better of him and he might take a mouse then.As for the amount,if 1 is leaving a decent size lump once it's gone down then just stick with 1 seeing thier rats.

Sylar won't go anywhere near mice either so I switched him to rat pups and now rat fuzzies. I still stick with the usual advice of looking to see if the lump is noticable when your snake has eaten. If it is then you don't need to increase the food size although you may want to offer more than 1. I moved Sylar on to rat fuzzies when he was regularly taking 3 rat pups

Thanks for the advice folks. I'll talk to my man in Belfast on Saturday coming when I'm down picking up supplies.
