I've just been writing the care sheet for the Mexican kingsnakes and got stuck on a latin name, so just thought I better check that I've understood it right: I came to the conclusion that the Lampropeltis mexicana leonis isn't a sub-species in it's own right but part of the Thayer/Variable kingsnake family. Is that what everyone else thinks too?
I'm confused because I can't find much information on it and some people say leonis is just part of the mexicana complex as a Neuvo Leon mountain kingsnake, while others say it's a phase in Thayer's. If that's true then why haven't the other phases got their own latin name?
Just reading that confused me! No idea, Kaz, can't help you
