I agree that there should be stricter guidelines on people who want to own snakes because there're all too many stories about how owners mistreat, or dont know how to look after, their snakes. I think there should be something done or a kind of exam based on snake health and care, BUT, this website makes this Burm sound as if it was some kind of psychotic animal who was just out to harm, and that's wrong.
Sad case, but maybe something needs to be done about keeping large [potentially lethal] snakes. I mean, WHY would anyone leave a burmese unattended in a garden?!!? Surely it has to be down to ignorance.
what do you guys think of it? |

I hope that i dont get any stick for this but I must say that I agree with the need for tighter restriction on such snakes... we all know that some snake owners are not responsible enough to be allowed to care for the animals they can so easily purchase and sadly this can result in the mistreatment of the snake or indeed the injury or death of other animals or even people as the case i America with the 2 year old so clearly points out. Indeed, a gang in London was using a royal python as a weapon, inducing it to bite a 14 year old boy. Now we who ARE responsible where our snakes are concerned obviuosly find the idea of restrictions annoying but unfortunately most of the population are irresponsible idiots who can barely look after themselves, let alone care for animals or children and unfortunately the only way to the people who make up our hobby are giving the animals the care the require and deserve is for tighter restrictions...
that was a mouthful...

| I think a restriction may be nessacary, but I dont think they should be classed as DWA. The cost of a DWAL in differant areas isnt consistant. In my area its 250 quid, in others its over a grand (for no actual reason). |

Having small children myself and reading the story about the albino python that constricted on that child and killed it (can't remember where I read that, might have been the dark side) I think there should be more restrictions, it shouldn't include smaller snakes that are unlikely to kill anything but it's prey that it's supposed to be eating, but definitely for the larger snakes that out of no fault of their own, will eat anything small enough to fit it's gob around, they're not picky, the warmer the better methinks... but the people that own them should have restrictions on them, for instance those that allow them to roam in their gardens, they should be there watching at all times, and even warn their neighbours if applicable to keep cats etc indoors because they are letting big snakey roam. I'm guessing as soon as they have found their prey and have attacked it, there is nothing a human can do to stop them? So they just need to keep an eye out.
I've waffled like an old woman now, but I think I've made my point, perhaps not... oh well. *goes and sits on the naughty step* |
