Most vets will tell you that a rat is an exotic pet (hell they even say a bunny or a piggy is an exotic pet, anything that ain't a farm animal or cat and dog is exotic to them)
Meet A B C D and E
Archimedes is the agouti rat Bartholomew is one of the black rats Cornelius is one of the black rats Donatello is the mink roan, now almost completely "white" Edward is the dumbo cinnamon, the cutest of them all.
I think that's more than enough for now lol Sorry I get carried away when posting pics of my animals. |

I like rats
Do rats as a whole have many health problems? I hear alot about rats needing their teeth clipped. |

Is that something that would be much of a threat for wild rats or is it because of breeding in captivity? |

I would think that most wild things are probably healthier than their captive cousins, even wild rats that live off rubbish and dead things |

It depends on their breedings, and how carefully their breeders have selected rats with clear health to breed on into a line to hopefully achieve a healthy happy rat. I doubt highly that a wild rat is healthier than captive bred, the wild cousins carry all sorts of diseases.
I know that any rodent is at risk of tumours and that is usually what causes their demise. |

My mate has one. Its lovely but not my thing to be honest, though I can see the appeal, unlike spiders. |
