Heya, thought I'd share a couple of pics from feeding time yesterday..
I was a little worried about bedding being eaten along with the pinkie and know that bark has caused problems with a friends garter snake so now use an ice cream tub to feed her in.. this worked really well, and I'm hoping that after a couple of times she will associate the tub with food. this may prevent biting in the long run, and help encourage her should she not be in the mood for eating..
last feed she took 2 pinkies straight down and was still hungry for more.. Not sure she's wide enough for anything larger yet though.. Forgot to weigh her before the feed but I'm sure she's longer than when I last weighed and measured her.
In her viv I have two hides which I made by cutting a coconut in half and then making doors, much like the plant pot idea on the forum.. 50p for two hides is not a bad price... She also now has a black tube with a bend it is actually the spout from a 1 gallon petrol can that I got last weekend to carry water. (only a quid from Tescos!!) Nothing else interesting there..
Couple of interesting questions as well..
What is a snakes Eyesight like? Cleo's favourite passtime when I'm in the room is to sit there looking out through the cage window. she watches me more than I watch her.. sometimes we just sit there watching each other!! Is a snakes eyesight good enough to recognise different people, or is it just movement that they detect. Can she even see though the plastic window or tell the difference between a reflection and what's on the other side????
Can you get anything as a snake treat? in the wild they would eat insects and stuff, a friend has recommended earth worms but I was thinking of the crickets that you can buy?? don't really want to start the whole live food v.s. dead food debate but crickets could be a nice treat.. Give her something to chase round the viv...
sorry far too much rambling from me..

glad its feeding ok for you, there is'nt anything you can give them as treats. You could vary their food when older but they wont reconise insects as food and will just ignor them. |

can't you sometimes give lizards or amphibians as treats? don't know if this applies to kings... and chicks as well... |

Chicks are really the only treat they can have, but Cleo's a bit small for those yet. Rodents are perfect nutrition so no need to supplement anyway.
I think they have good eyesight, but not as good as us. They would recognise movement more than anything, but kings do seem to respond to vibrations more than my other snakes. They are quite nosey about the hoover etc.
She's a nice little snake |

I know my king knows when I vacuum she attacks the front of the viv if I get to near the front of it. Find out why the owner before me got her tail in the end of a vacuum

I'd avoid crickets etc. My wife has a spider and if it doesn't eat them they will eat anything that gets near their mouths - way worse than King snakes! |
