At last, I've managed to get some reasonable snaps of Fester my newest SSPCA rehomer.

He's unprobed and has a brilliant nature. No bites, eats fine, really active & inquisitive. At the moment he's in a temp RUB but I should have his new house built by the weekend. I have 2 under construction, the other is for Mirkey my Grey Rat Snake. Time to get rid of the glass house.

Guestimates on approximate or minimum age would be appreciated. He's a solid 4'9". I know it is impossible to say accurately but would like some rough idea.

Also, has anyone seen the vertical scale 'damage' on the flanks before? (pic 4.)
It isn't burn or anything like external damage. To me it looks like the scales have been folded or creased at some point. They are regularly spaced on both flanks with random single scales showing the same. Under an eye-glass they are the same depth as normal inter-scale indentation.

Anyway, I hope you like Fester's first public appearance.

Cracking MBK. At that size he could be anywhere from 5 years old upwards at a guess. What weight is he?

I also thought the marks could be weight related. Do you know what his history is? Was he found wandering? I wonder if he was heavy and then lost alot of weight?

Cheers guys. He's just a smidge under 850 grams.

He was a rescue from the SSPCA. Left abandoned in student accommodation.

The creases look to me as if the scales might have been damaged due to tight coiling when the scales were soft. Maybe when very young??

He is very large so I am still guessing he used to be even bigger at some point. I would have thought any injury at a young age would have healed completely by now so my moneys still on it being weight related unless it's been a recent injury that hasn't had time to heal yet? Time will tell

He checked out absolutely fine with the SSPCA vet and the Inspector also commented on the creases, not that she really needed to point them out. They don't appear to cause any pain or discomfort so I'm not really bothered. Whether or not they grow out over time and shedding, it doesn't really matter. I was more curious than worried.

He wasn't left long. The landlord found him when checking the vacated flat. He immediately phoned it in to the SSPCA where it was held for a month for checking ... and me.

My 6yo cali has got creases very like that down her sides- I only noticed them this week, she didn't have them until just recently. It looks like she's been folded. I wondered if I was perhaps overfeeding her, and she was getting a bit porky, but at 4ft8" she's a reasonable 500gish and when she visited the vet recently, he actually remarked on her good muscle tone, so i don't think it is flabbiness.
She does have a habit of squishing herself into ridiculously tight spaces though, especially when she's playing out- this evening she crammed her entire self into a gap in the CD rack and then sat there peeping out, looking utterly gormless... my poor thicko girly, bless her.
I think possibly that they just don't understand when they've grown a bit, that they're not going to fit into that favourite hide any more, and so they still try to curl up in old haunts of their snakey youth... and it gives them wrinkles.

Congratulations on the acquisition, btw- Fester is very handsome

He's turned into a Mexican Blue Snake but nothing wrong with his appetite. Shedding time soon.
