Hi, I bought a hognose a year ago and I'm looking into getting a second snake: would a king be a good idea? I have a 4 x 2 tank that my beardie is currently, but he's moving up to a bigger enclosure, would that be a good size for a Cali king?
Thanks in advance |

Hi a king would be a great choice. Calis are known for being one of the least friendly kingsnakes and albino ones seem to be even less friendly than normals for some reason but I have one and it just adds to his character. If you get a hatchling I'd start it off in a small tub etc and eventually move it up to the 4x2 tank.
Here's my cali:- http://www.thekingsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2048

Kings are great, they actually have character unlike some snakies (im not gna mention any) yes they can be fiesty but my kings arnt that bad untill u go to feed them they get abit wacky. but if u dont mind getting bitten maybe a couple of times they are great snakes to have. good luck in your decision, aslo you could always look at milk snakes there just as cool and some very pretty ones. not that im trying to confuse you anymore in your decision :) p.s hey and welcome here :) |

Thanks for the advice, the temper isn't really a problem.
Do you have any idea of how fast they grow?
Thanks in advance, Alex |

King snakes are amazing! Some of them can be quite snappy but most that i've come across are lovely! I myself have been blessed with the worlds most dopey, laid-back kingsnake in the world and i love him to bits! They are great snakes to keep! |

My kingsnake is the world's least king-like snake. :D I'd buy more if I could, and recommend them to everyone, each one seems to have a different personality. |

every snake grows at a different rate, some slower than others depending how often ya feed it and what etc but as they say they dont stay babies for long as it would seem if that makes sense.. |

Normally around 3 years old you can call them adults but I got my cali at this age and he weighed 440g and he now weighs 580g so it seems he's still got some growing to do. |
