I've caught her attacking her own tail twice in the last 2 weeks. She also seems to have diminished sensitivity (I stroke her tail, she doesn't move).

She is 16-18 (not sure on age as she is a rescue snake) so is it just dementia?

I took her to a generic vet but he wasn't sure what it was, and I am not sure about his reptile competency .

I honestly do believe that animals of that age can suffer from an animal form of dementia. I have an elderly bearded dragon who seems to forget where she is from time to time and kinda freak out. Sometimes she forgets she is doing something and gets confused at what it is she is doing. xx

I have saw old dogs and cats that definately have a form of dementia so why not snakes. I'd get a reptile vet to check her over just to 100% sure there's nothing wrong. Great age for your mbk. Can you post some pics?
