Hi, I am new to Snakes.
I do have a question. Im in UK and there appears to be a lack of Common King Snakes out there (all I can find are Californian Kingsnakes (which should make them common)).
I am looking at a pair of Common Kingsnakes to buy but I am worried that I may not be able to pass on (sell) their offspring.
Can anyone help? |

To my knowledge, "common kings" is just a term generalised to the Lampropeltis getula genus. So you are looking at Cali kings, Mexican blacks etc.
In fact the care sheet says it better http://www.thekingsnake.co.uk/Common_king_snakes_care_sheet.htm

Thanks guys. I hope to pick them up in the next couple of days. I just want to set the viv up first so I can make sure they are ok.
I dont have a photograph of them yet as they are still in the shop. also, because this shop has had a very bad reputation in the past, can anyone recommend somewhere (in or close to Derbyshire) where I can view/buy a kingsnake or two?
I see there are a few mail-order companies but I dont like the idea of animals traveling in the post! lol |

I will look at Bluelizard.... I am now (or will be on Thursday) the proud owner of two MBK's!! woop woop!
Sadly they are of the same bloodline. There are two boys and two girls.
I know i cant breed them (when I feel confidedent in many years to come) but should i wish two what would be best?
I am looking at buying the two females... This way i could buy another male (in time) and breed.
What would be the best solution?
2 boys? 2 girls? 1 of each?
I dont mind having 1 or two more but a good solution may help.
It dont matter too much but the more info i get the better.
I really like MBK's and I have seen a few.
I just like to ask questions and more questions in order to prepare! lol
My two new family members were hatched this year, so I have plenty of time. |

if you get the two females, as you say you can get a male in time. If you are wanting to breed them this is handy as you can give each one a years rest between breeding |

Hiya and welcome to the forum. I am in Derbyshire too, where abouts are you? Which shop are you talking about with the bad rep? Rather than naming and shaming you can email me if you like |

Hi kdland.
The one with the GOOD REP is Walf Aquatics in Pinxton. I'm in Belper, nr Derby. and the one with the bad rep is close by. lol
Ive just got myself two Aberrant Mexican Blacks. lovely colours. Will post some pics when they are settled in. They are about one foot long and are brother and sister. I know I cant breed them but in time I may get another one. Till then ill learn to look after these two. The male is quite adventurous and the female is currently in hiding! lol |

will e nice seeing the photos. I'm interested in the abbarent part, mexis are just the one colour with no visable pattern that i have noticed. Abbarent normally refers to the pattern. |

If i have done this right then the following link should take you to my photos of my two MBKS.
http://photobucket.com/paulw156
They are both around 1 foot (not accuratly measured them as only got them today). they are brother and sister. The male is very adventurous and curious where as the female is, well all she has really done is hide away, probably lady like.
Even though i read that really i should not feed them for 3 days after purchase they were really active enough. so the pet shop man at Walf Aquatics said I would probably be able to feed them today. So i did. the male struck quickly when offered a fuzzy and swollowed just as quick. The female turned her nose away a for a few minutes. Then she struck at the fuzzy. She would not eat it until i stopped watching but she guarded her prey!
I am so please with my two family members. Even though i really wanted BLACK kings. lol |

i'm not very good with kings but they look more like desert or florida kings. I could be way off tho.
I usually use wharf aquatics and the staff in there are pretty good, although if they sold you these as MBK's I would be questioning them |
