Most kings will sometimes try to eat everything at some point or another. I (and several others) once watched my mbk trying to eat a plastic plant, Trio tried to eat a blanket about 4 weeks ago, pic underneath.
Generally though mice are recommended as a staple, but some of the larger kings can and will eat rats, or day old chicks. However chicks are more so a rare treat as the nutritional value in them is still debated as to be any good or not, but the general consensus is that it's like letting a child live off lettuce only. King poo stinks beyond all description from a chick.
Here's the piccy of Trio trying to eat a blanket, he's a silly king.
