Hello all, I'm new in here and first-time kingsnake owner :) I just got a hatchling MBK yesterday but a lot of people are telling me it looks just like a desert king, which it does, but the breeder (a very reputable one) was sure it's an MBK and bred from an MBK X MBK pairing with both parents being jet black.

Now, I know some MBK hatchlings aren't pure black and will have some speckling that fades away as they grow older, but my little king seems to have a LOT of colouration for it to be an MBK? I thought I'd ask in here to see if anyone who now owns an adult MBK has had a colourful hatchling.

Here's a picture of my baby:

Thanks.

Hello there :)

Did you happen to post on another UK based forum too?

I do think that it looks like a Desert King, though I also know that some hatchling MBK's can have some colour on them.

Here's my 09 for comparison...this was taken on the day I got him/her

1.0.0 Mexican Milk
0.0.1 Mexi Black
0.0.3 Corns
0.1.0 Western Hognose

Ohhhh..I saw the post too!!!
Does look like a Dessert to me, but i have seen a good few Mex Black hatchlings that are speckled when young..Time will tell i guess??

Lots of Milks!! Few Royals, corns, Rosie Boas and Childrens Pythons. One Bci, and one Irian Jaya Carpet!

Plus MBK's and Deserts do interbreed in the wild, so as posted on the other forum it could be in the gene pool

1.0.0 Mexican Milk
0.0.1 Mexi Black
0.0.3 Corns
0.1.0 Western Hognose
