Hi guys ive been a member on the cornsnake forum for a while and am quite experienced. just fancied broadening my horizons with a king snake.

just wondering what would be the best type as it will be my first king snake. are they as tame and placid as corns? and any tips on heat etc will be apreciated as i want to get my care spot on as info on the net is misleading. i havve a family and we all love our snake collection so any tips will be great.

many thanks

The care for kings is nearly exactly the same as corns, a couple degree higher temp but that's about it really.

Kings are great little snakes, they can be a bit more feisty than corns to start with and at feeding times, but I think that's part of what makes them appealing.
As for what type to go for, it's purely preference.
I'd say either a cali king or a mexi black. However if you'd like to add a bit more colour to them then maybe a milk snake as they have a much wider range or colours/patterns.
I cannot tell you a great deal about milks myself I'm afraid as I've not had one before, but I'd imagine someone may be able to fill you in with them.

I"d agree with a Callie on your first choice of King...They come in so many colours and patterns now, you are bound to find one you like.
As said, they can have a bit more spunk when young (Callies are always hungry)...But..Thats all part of the fun!

Lots of Milks!! Few Royals, corns, Rosie Boas and Childrens Pythons. One Bci, and one Irian Jaya Carpet!

i apologise and throw myself at the mercy of the forum sheriffs, I should have listened to the voices saying one is ever enough.

i have found that my older cali girl has pretty much stopped musking she is under a year old, and she will only musk if i manage to catch her unaware, My hatchling hasn't musked yet.
