My Florida King fed for the 1st time yesterday morning and I was over the moon as to how well it all went.
However, I wanted to clean some of the poo today so I went in and tried to grab the stuff out. Unfortunately the smallish tank means that you are always fairly close to the snake. I went in and he bit me from under his log, that strecthes for most of the length of the tank. I am a bit annoyed with myself as I clearly spooked him....
No pain, no bother, but I should have waited until I could see where he was before I went in. I clearly spooked him. This is the 1st time that this has happened.
My 1st question is how do you clean a young snakes den without spooking him, or getting bitten? I want to undertake a complete clean out his plastic tank, but feel that he would not appreciate this.
Also, can I still handle him tomorrow, 10 days after purchasing him and 2 days after 1st feeding him or am I best leaving him alone and giving him another week, and meal, to settle in?
I have yet to name him so apologise for calling him 'snake'. |

You are gine to handel him tomorrow, just make sure he knows you're there before you put your hand in, lifting his hide up will let him know you're there and will offer some protection to yur hand if he does decide to strike at you. When you are cleaning his tank then put him in another suitable box and put him back in wen you're done |

Just to say all went very well with the 1st handling of my Florida King and I also cleaned out his viv. He was a bit tricky to catch initially as he kept ducking for cover under the reptile bark, but I got there in the end.
Thanks for the help.

Glad to hear it, just be careful not to overdo it and stress him out |
