Hi I just wanted to introduce myself to this forum. My name is Carl my Mexican Black King is my first ever snake. I first set eyes on a king on Halloween just gone and fell in Love. So after a fair share of reading up I bought a Mexican. Its fully black apart from two flecks of white under its chin. It was musking on me up until a couple of days ago but another King owner helped me out and now its so much more relaxed with me. Well thats all I wanted to say and would love to hear oyher peoples stories about theres on here cheers |

| welcome carl - It's awful when they musk you - We've just took in a rouge corn that takes musking to another level! on me, the floor, the sofa and on it's rub in one fowl swoop! Hope it calms down soon... don't think the washer can cope! |

I think she's a rat-cross too- too wild to be a corn
Mexi-blacks are cool Carl- glad you are happy with yours. Lewy did the same as you and fell in love at first site when we got Nagini. Stunning looking snakes! |

You should be alright Darren, just be careful because they are really strong at that size. Don't let her around your neck unless you know you can pry her off
Outside the viv is usually easier anyway- our mexi black is quite viv defensive (I know, I have the bite photos to prove it ), but if we let him leave the viv on his own and pick him up then he's fine. |

| Hi Kaz hows it going? I just wanted to ask a question. If my Mexi is shaking its tale should i not pick it up. I take it as a sign it wants to be left alone? |

Yes, snakes usually shake their tails when they are scared and are trying to scare you off.
I would leave my Mexican black alone if it shook it's tail at me, but I'd come back about 10 minutes or so later and try again.
How are you approaching your snake? Sometimes if you come in from above they are more scared because that would be how a predator like a bird would come for them in the wild. Best thing to do is approach slowly from the side. Let him see you and have chance to smell you. They get used to smells and will soon associate your scent with being handled if you do it regularly enough |
