Right, so after reading a post of TRP i'm worried about my choice of heating.
I've posted my question regarding my python on that site.. but i'd like to know about the safest way to heat Strawbs' viv. She's on a heatmat, which [obviously] is controlled 24/7.. but is it better to upgrade to a bulb with a large cover? She's a year and 3 months old and has a 11x11 heat mat under unprinted paper inside her viv. I understand that heavier snakes can cause problems with their size/weight, but is it the same with a smaller snake as they get older??
Cheers guys! |

slimmer snakes are fine heated with a mat their entire lives, when upgrading to a bigger viv though i'd personally use a bigger mat to make sure it covers one half to one third of the floor space. though i've personally had a 1'x2'heatmat in a 4'x2'x2' viv with no problems (one quarter of the floor space covered) |

As GP says, kings and milks are fine on heatmats. I do use ceramic bulbs with guards but that is just my personal choice and either is fine |
