Posted - 10/09/2008 : 11:45:46 Maybe a daft question - Don't know if any of you have bred kings before - Can you breed Mexican Blacks with other species of king? Have looked it up without much luck.
I'm not thinking about it yet but in 3 years when Tempo is breeding age/size was wondering if I could breed with a Mexican black and If so what would I get - tempo being a cali king stripe Het albino?
Know you can breed Kings with Corns (jungles) that's what prompted the question. Can different species of King breed?

Personally, Why throw in an other species to the equation. Mexican Blacks are sort after because of there pure black bold colouration. Whenever Hybridisation get's brought I always tend to get defensive. I don't see any need.
If anything, It's going to be a hell of alot harder to sell the Hatchlings on, If you can. You won't get enough for them to even pay food bills for the hatchlings. Theres no real positives. Im really not for Hybrids at all.
Why play with two aready stunning pure species?

Couldnt agree more. Buy another mexi and breed those.. you will have people snapping your hands off for decent pure mexi's. alot of people really dont agree with hybrids because unfortunatley alot of people are not honest when they sell them wich srews up pure bloodlines. |

If you were cross breeding a cali with a mexi black, you wouldn't technically be breeding 2 different species as they are exactly the same species...just different subspecies!. Alterna x Ruthveni is a common cross breed of species though, this probably came about in order to create albino alterna as to my knowledge a pure albino alterna has never been found in the wild and so the only way to produce them was to pair one with an albino ruthveni, a very very close relative of the grey-band (or so they say)...so when you see an albino alterna for sale be aware you're not actually buying a pure alterna - it's a cross with a little ruthvens in the mix!.
Sorry if you all knew this, but i didn't make you read it! Alex
Ah interesting, knew you'd come in handy! |

Posted - 20/10/2008 : 22:59:18 As far as I know its possible to breed different species of kings together, but as Meltos already said you will struggle to sell the hatchlings |

Posted - 14/09/2008 : 09:41:36 He sounds daft. It's the all black thing that makes them attractive.
Not more attractive than other kings though, just different. Many owners prefer what they prefer and Lewy loved Nagini the moment he set eyes on her. It's all down to preference really. |

Posted - 14/09/2008 : 08:48:52 not a lot of people want them, one shop by me wont stock them, cause he thinks most people find them boring and prefer colourful snakes |

Posted - 14/09/2008 : 08:09:50 However, the MexiCalis were cheaper than the California Kings (£50 v £59). I can't see a Mexican Black King going for cheaper than £50 in a shop and I would have thought they would be more expensive than a California King. |

Posted - 10/09/2008 : 19:31:23 Can't say as there were no young mexi Blacks for sale, just two adults sold as a breeding pair.

Posted - 10/09/2008 : 18:38:30 but were the half-breed babies worth as much as the pure Mexi-blacks?

Posted - 10/09/2008 : 18:31:13 Kaz it is possible and has already been done. There were about 10 Mexcali crosses for sale today at the shop. They are banded with darker and narrower bands I was told but didn't look in their rubs as I was fighting off a Cali King that was trying to eat me at the time!!!!! |

Posted - 10/09/2008 : 17:25:06 Plus- I was thinking, because Nagini is such a good-looking, pure Mexican black (pure black from tongue to tail) it might be worth only breeding her with another pure black mexican. The babies are worth more if they are pure. |
