Posted - 06/08/2009 : 08:29:17 Recently my very young kingsnake managed to escape his ten gallon. I underestimated his strength and he managed somehow to press the top open, and there were several books ontop. Anyway, after initially checking him over he seemed fine, but tonight I noticed that there's some tiny scratch-like wounds on his stomach scales.

Managed to get this picture of the largest one. Is this cause for great alarm? I'm not sure how he could have got it besides perhaps from worming his way up under the top. Will it heal on its own or should I seek medical attention for him?
As far as he's acting however, he's very alert and moving around just fine. He made no attempt to bite me, but sometimes when I get him out at night he's a bit more docile. I'm kind of wondering if I should rethink his cage, or add more to it? He has several hides, and I keep him on aspen shavings, and I regulate the temps very carefully... |

Posted - 28/09/2009 : 23:51:50 Wow, I can't believe this thread is still so far up. But just to let you guys know, he's shed several times by now and is almost fully healed. You can still sorta see the scarring on his stomach, but it pretty much only shows as discoloration now. He still eats like a pig! |

Posted - 07/08/2009 : 18:09:14 My minds a total blank for the name- but GP will be able to tell you.
If it's not a visible wound then it'll be fine. It might take a few sheds but it'll heal eventually. |

Posted - 06/08/2009 : 22:06:30 It isn't bleeding and doesn't look open, but I'll look into getting the reptile safe meds for him. Anyone have an idea what it's called? Thanks a lot for the tips you guys, I'm getting him food today so hopefully it's not bothering him too much to eat. He's moving about just fine so I'm assuming it's not too horrible.
The other hurt spots are sorta pinkish, but there's only one other where it looks like the scale's broke. |

Posted - 06/08/2009 : 19:19:41 I think it'll heal after a few sheds- like Jono suggests maybe treat it for infection, but as long as it's clean I would think it will be ok on it's own. |

Posted - 06/08/2009 : 10:38:04 Looks like it may be a small burn perhaps? If you're really worried you could take him to the vets but I think it will probably start to look better after a few sheds. |
