So as part of Ceils Viv furniture I thought a ladder would be cool.... So he can play snakes ad ladders! Haha!!!

But the ladder I got from the pet shop is wooden and ment for birds! Screws removed and it's totally smooth so he cant catch himself. But.... It doesn't say what wood it is make of! Any ideas of what they are generally made of and if it will be ok for him? I put it in last week and then just thought about some woods being bad for snakes! He's been ok but I don't want to risk it with some of them being toxic! He really loves the ladder! Would love to keep it or buy a safer alternative if it's likly to be bad for him!!! X

It is really the sap from the likes of pine and cedar which is toxic to snakes, not the wood itself. The lists you see on the web concern all reptiles and mainly relates to eating the berries and foliage of the plants and trees being poisonous.

Wood used for 'toys' is matured, dried and therefore dead. Only freshly collected logs and branches have any chance of containing sap/resin.

I Have made assorted bits and pieces from furniture pine wood and non of my snakes have shown any ill effects.
