Hi guys- just concerned about my albino cali- I fed him two fluffs over a month ago which he devoured. A week later he only took one fluff. Then for the last two weeks he's turned his nose up at his food! Slightly worried about this. Can anyone shed some light on it for me? Cheers x

Looking into it I think this is the case and he is brumating. This is the first autumn/winter I have had him cos I got him in the spring so I'm learning all the time. Thanks for the advice.

Yeh if folk are going to be breeding next year they will start brumating them soon. All the rest of mine are eating fine.

Just been on Google and it says that Kingsnakes hibernate in the Autumn?!! Wonder if this is the reason why he is not eating??

hiya - yeah Baz refused one again yesterday. I brained it too (yuck!) but to no avail. Think I'll try again too in a couple of weeks. Bizarre isn't it though?! Are your others eating fine?

Mine refused again tonight. Has absolutely no interest in feeding just now, I even tried braining it. Will try again in 2 weeks.

My male albino stripe cali is exactly the same just now. I feed him every 2 weeks but he hasn't eaten now for a month but I am not overly concerned about him and he isn't losing any weight. This is the first time he has refused feeds since i've had him. Must be something in the air. As long as you monitor their weight and they are not losing too much there's nothing to worry about.

It's been 4 weeks and basil's still turning his nose up at any food I give him. He's weighing about 500g at the moment but was always a small snake anyway cos his last owner barely fed him. He is active and warm enough but he's more interested in playing in his food box than eating in it! I'm wasting mice at this rate and there isn't a local reptile vet I can take him to. Any further help and advice would be brilliant guys :-)

They do spend most of their time at the cold side. Don't worry about him he'll heat himself up if he needs it. What weight is he?
basilsmum Posted - 01/10/2012 : 21:33:33
Thanks- I feel a better knowing that- yep I do weigh him regularly and I thought he was putting on a bit of weight! My mum is always concerned I'm under feeding him but I think this is proving actually I'm not lol. As far as the temp goes- he doesn't always go to the warmer part of his viv so when I keep him up from the cooler side he feels cold and I have to warm him up.

2 weeks is nothing so as long as the temps are ok it's fine. He may be heading for a shed. Do you weigh him regularly? As long as he maintains weight there is no cause for concern.
