I posted a while back about my cali girly being miserable: I thought she was better when she seemed to perk up and ate a couple of mousies just after, but since then she's been all 'down' again....she's totally disinterested in anything going on outside her viv, where she used to be really nosey, and she's pretty much permanently curled up in her warm hide, where she usually would be stretched out all round the viv, and moving around quite a bit. This week she's started poking herself right underneath the heatmat... ??!! Its really not like her atall to be so quiet: she seems utterly morose. The thing is though, tonight I lifted the hide to check on her, and she was sort of twitching; little jerky movements, it looked a bit like hiccups. Is this a symptom of anything? I'm starting to get quite worried, cos she's refused two feeds now aswell, which is absoLUTEly not like her normal self. Has anybody seen anything similar before? or got any ideas please on how to cheer up my poor girl?? ... and what the jerky thing might be...?? I'm trying not to fret but a female king snake not eating in june is NOT normal, I'm sure you'd all agree...??? |

blimey- she's not doing the stargazing thing, but my worry plus what you've said, equals ringing the vet first thing tomorrow-

and I am not sure but I think that jerking and stargazing (which my Eve was doing) are signs of internal parasites, like amoeba, which are killed by this drug. seriously, you need a vet for this. |

I do not yet have my kingsnake (coming soon!) BUT..... a few years back i did rescue a cornsnake and after about six months of RAVENOUS feeding (she is a complete dustbin) she went off her food. For a few weeks. she also buried herself under her heatmat.... and was just NOT her notmal self at all.
I took her to the vet and she was treated for internal parasites with a prescription drug in liquid form, calle Flagyl In Ireland that is the name, technical name is metronidazole (query on the spelling there!). whatever country you are in, if you google FLAGYL you will find it. this drug kills all sorts of bacteria, including internal snake parasites, which is what I suspect my Eve had. you will need to visit your vet though. By the time a snake shows signs of illness it is very advanced. Eve had a dose of the liquid via syringue into her mouth (that was fun..... NOT!) and a secong dose 2 weeks later. by then, thankfully, she was happy to eat again, si i injected the liquid into the abdomen of her mouse, making it easier and less stressful on both of us!
I really think you should pop to your vet. I do not know if your snake has the same issue, but my vet HAS told me (and I know from experience!) that this drug seems to help any animal no matter what the problem! i have used it on cats and dogs too, and myself indeed! |
