I had Kage out for a mosey earlier on today and have just noticed that she has a few small dry patches on her scales, and each individual one appears to have a small indentation. I haven't noticed if this has always been the case. She has a guarded heatlamp setup, and a small statted heatmat as a safeguard in case the bulb blows. It only comes on if the temp drops below about 26 degrees. I have the bulb on a timer so that I can allow the temps to drop a few degrees at night.

She likes to climb in underneath the heatmat (3 hides and she still chooses to hide there!), and while it turns off if the temperature exceeds 26 degrees, I still worry that its in constant contact with her.

Apologies for crap pic, she wasn't in the form for sitting still and behaving. You can see in the middle of the picture what I'm talking about though.

Is this normal? She last shed on the 2nd of May, and she sheds roughly once every 4-5 weeks, although on the 16th I moved her up from fluffs to small mice so she could well be due another shed?

Kehhler has a topic running just now on a scale 'condition'. It might be an idea to add your photo to the discussion and at least keep them together.

did you see bauldy's post in the photo section? his mbk fester has similar, and so does my californian, mabel aka spot- they dont seem to cause any bother, but are fairly permanent- any idea what they are?

Just a quick update here, Kage has shed since the last post with no problems, one full clean shed with nothing retained. Unfortunately the little indentations are still there. They don't seem to be causing her any bother and she's perfectly healthy otherwise, but I'm just wondering if it's cause for concern. She's growing at a remarkable rate, which could be a cause?

I have the two heat sources at the same place, although the heat mat is just a safeguard in case the bulb fails, the thermostat is set to 26 degrees so the two are never on together.

I'll keep an eye on her when she next sheds then.

Mine has something like that, I figured he was just getting fat and they were creases, so I've been having him out to exercise more. The old skin idea sounds more likely though.

Personally I wouldn't bother with both heat sources. One will be sufficient. I assume you have them both on the same side?

You reckon? Grand so, I'll take the timer out then. So much conflicting information on the internet!

I hope so, her last shed seemed to come off in 2 or 3 pieces but I didn't think to check whether there were any bits missing from them when I cleaned her viv out.

My first guess would be they are scales that didn't come off during the shed, if so they should come off on the next shed. You could try wetting a towel and letting it run through that, it might take them off. I peronally wouldn't bother with the night time temp drops. Keep hot side at 30-32 and the cold side at room temp.
