Posted - 03/05/2011 : 19:36:10 Hi everyone, Silvan my king snake has got a small bump on his mouth just on his bottom jaw. It looks a bit sore and swollen. He was in the snake shop near us for a week whilst we were on holiday and I asked the owner to take a look. He said it wasnt anything nasty like mouthrot but he didnt really notice it at all. When he came home, the bump was gone, but in two days it has come back again. He is also very listless (as if he is about to shed although he is approx a month early!) I have noticed him nosing the corner of his viv, so I've put some card round the corner, but he still noses the door. I'm wondering if he needs a bigger viv - it is a bit too small for him as he has grown a foot since we got him.
So to clarify, my questions are:
1) Does anyone have any idea what the red bump might be (he is feeding well and it definitely isn't mouthrot).
2) Do snakes sometimes shed at different times (normally its every 3 months, but he looks like he is going into shed after just 2 months).
3) Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced website that sells vivs, so I can test my hypothesis that his viv is too small? In the meantime I get him out regularly, although for the past two days he has not wanted to come out.
Thanks all, sorry for lots of questions, but I am a relatively new snake owner, so want to make sure I treat him right!

Posted - 05/05/2011 : 15:23:53 I second the shedding anytime. Romeo doesnt have a specific amount of weeks between each shed. His last once came 2 weeks after the one before it. Again I second pictures of him and the viv, and also a possible trip to the vets xx
