Posted - 28/01/2011 : 17:04:30 i have a 3 year old albino cali king hes very active, feeds really well poops and over all seems perfect he shed on the 23rd of this month it came off in one piece with no problems as normal the problem he has is for about an inch of hes neck on the top not the under side hes scales look red and sore theres no bleeding or fluid but its bright red then further down an inch more of hes scales seem to be discoloured the same reddy.orangy/brown theres no cracking or anything just discolour ive been putting reptile wound healing aid on him everyday does anyone know what this could be as im stuck for answers it doesnt look like the pictures of scale rot ive seen i use aspin as a substrate he has a water bowl he sits in vines to play on etc and a hide on the cool side as he spends all hes time there he did have one on the hot which was a log so i took it out incase this was the problem for hes scales if it scraped his back etc

Posted - 29/01/2011 : 17:07:20 the coldest side is 72 and the hottest side is between 85-87 hes heat mats under the glass and he has aspin on top of that so a dont think it can be a burn someone suggested scale rot but it doesnt look like any of the pics ive seen either weve took hes aspin out and cleaned out hes viv and put only paper towels in incase it aggrivated what ever it is i used shed aid on him last week and dont know weather or not this can cause an allergic reaction or if it would cause one of hes scales coming loose am totally stuck if a work out how to post a pic on a shall because this is thr first time ive used these forum things lol thanx for your reply =) |

Posted - 28/01/2011 : 20:12:41 Do you have a thermostat controlling the heat mat? I only ask as that rules out a burn.
If possible could you post a pic of the problem area?
Hopefully someone else will be on later who can help but if in doubt a trip to the vet might be best.

Posted - 28/01/2011 : 19:24:27 a heat mat under the glass the temps all seem fine i gave him a bath earlier to let him soak and when he came out i noticed it had spred through hes scales a good 3-4 inches while i rubbed hes ointment in he kind of struck at me so it must be hurting him but i have no idea what it could be theres nothing on hes under belly just the top im new to snakes too so its got me kinda worried lol |
