Hi I just bought a california king snake yesterday. I was told that she is a 2 1/2 years old but she is only 60 cm tall and very thin. the vivarium is about 80 cm by 50 and 60 high. The priviose owner used to warm the vivarium for only 2 hours daily with a heat met. I would like to know how to fatten her up since I would like to breed next year and the male is about 5 foot long. Is it a good idea to get a smaller vivarium? and to keep the heat met on?

Today I am going to the pet shop to chech if its a female or a male. the owner told me that its a female I hope that its a female. then I will start the feeding so that she will gain weight. Thanks for the information given. In malta we don't have experts to talk about the problems. So I will be asking about problems here.

You really want to be feeding prey that is 1.5x thicker than the widest part of the snakes body

so long as there are enough places for the king to hide and feel secure, the viv should be fine.

Feeding depends on the bump left after feeding, if there is little sign of a bulge in the belly, then yes you can move to 2 flufs or move up to the next size up.

What about the vivarium will it help if i put her in a smaller one? and about feeding how much should i give her a week? he used to give here flufs once a week. should i remain the same or give her 2 a week?

yes you are better keeping her on the heat 24 hours a day, as for fattening her up just feed appropriate sized mice weekly and she should do just fine. As for breeding next season she may or may not be ready but do not rush her feeding so that you can breed her next year.
