Posted - 02/09/2009 : 02:18:57 I've had my sinaloan milk snake for about 8 months, he was 2 when I bought him.
Only problem is, i've handled him only 4 or 5 times.
This is my first snake and every time i go to pick him up, he'll start darting around the viv and will go up the walls and eventually hide in a long tube, making it impossible to get him (he's almost constantly in there)
I want to be able to hold him, but I don't want him to stress out a huge amount every time I try to pick him up.
I know all of this may sound cruel, I was considering giving him to someone else who could handle him but I really want to give it a shot...
Any help please? |

Posted - 23/09/2009 : 12:49:41 As everybody else has said Milks are usually always a bit nervous at first. As you say he is two already, i wonder if he was not handled at all at his last home? Sinaloans are usually the least nervous of the bunch, so gentle persistant handling should win him round. I"d also replace the hide, make it easy on yourself, give him one you can easily get him out from. |

Posted - 02/09/2009 : 08:36:40 tbh mate you are gonna have to bite the bullet and get him our and used to you. they are naturally shy creatures who take a bit of work to tame down. If the hide is causing a roblem then get him a diffrent one which is easier to remove him from. and try to handle him as much as you can, almost every day (except for 2-3 days after he has eaten).. Also, to get the snake used to your scent initially, try putting a worn t-shirt in the viv with him for a couple of weeks, this will enable the snake to get used to your scent and also, if he hides underneath the t-shirt, will associate your scent with security, thus making him calmer...
hope that helps, and if anyone has anything to add feel free..
anyway, on another note, gratz on having a sinaloan, they are awesome! you should get some pics up asap! |
