Well, it finally happened...Morse got loose. I'm sorry for posting again so soon, but I couldn't resist telling you guys about this. Previously I'd been keeping my snake a secret from my father, who doesn't care for me having a ton of pets. But really, I don't, just the three reptiles and the chinchilla, which he loves anyway. ANYHOO.

Unfortunately, it seems that my baby king snake had other plans...because the little jerk managed to somehow get out of his cage and crawl into the door divider of my parent's shower only to be discovered by my father AFTER he'd taken one. And of course he's all hanging out there, looking like some scary as hell snake that's gonna pump you full of venom (to my dad, anyway).

HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN. I am currently still in shock...thankfully enough my dad sort of laughed it off, and said that I didn't have to get rid of him, but I'm worried he might change his mind later.

I suppose I've underestimated this snake's strength, combined with the stupidity of me thinking that a couple of books stacked onto the tank top would be enough to keep him from getting loose as a temporary solution before I install some sort of lock or a way of keeping it fixed shut.

Still in shock. Anyone else ever have their snake get loose? I suppose I should consider myself lucky...there are probably a million little nooks he culd squeeze himself into and I'd probably never see him again...

lmao sorry for laughing but this topic is funny, the end result was OK so I'm allowed to laugh, right?

We think Jally lived on insects too - when we found her she had black stuff inside her (she's transparent) and had learnt how to hunt in a funny way (probably because insects are faster than dead mice)

We had a corn escape from a shop bought viv some years back, she pushed a glued airvent out (afterwards I screwed them all on).
Thought she was gone for good after 3 months over Xmas, but turned up alive and well under dog's bed, apparently been living on dog's water and spiders - we had noticed there had been a sharp drop in them.

@Magneticblue: I keep him in a 10gallon aquarium with a (foolishly) unfit lid with some books stacked on it to keep it shut. I'd been meaning to make straps or some kind of lock so that it stays shut, and now I'm looking into it and will have that problem fixed soon.

And yes! I am so very thankful to have found him that quickly, and uninjured, for the most part.

Just be thankful you found him - and with a funny story to bring up at future family parties whilst drunk too

i havent had a recent snakes escape as since 2 of mine when i was younger managed it i am over cautious... my 1st snake kept escapeing but i'd always find him on the curtain rail in my room, my second snake ascaped a week after i got him and has never been seen since :( and since that was about 12 or 13 years ago i think he is long gone...
magneticblue Posted - 06/08/2009 : 10:26:29
What do you keep him in?
I have kept my kings in faunariums and none of them have escaped, alternatively yuo could use a really useful box as the lids are very secure on those.

Glad you found him so quickly

yes...god, when i think about all the horrible things that could have happened it makes me sick x.x he's so small, he totally could have gotten crushed or stepped on...

My Trio forced the lid of his tank in March. He was gone for about a fortnight. Aside from the straps on the lid, it also had a box with loads of DVDs and a coupe phone books.

I underestimated his strength as well, it happens. Although some people don't get them back for a while either.
