Anyone know if it is possible to get captive bred grass snakes (the ones native to this country?) I think they are amazing but you never see them in shops or anything...

I used to get told off by my mum for bringing grass snakes and adders into the house when I was about 10. I'd still do it now if I could, but I know it wouldn't annoy her anymore.

Phibs aren't bottom of the food chain- Lewy is

The Mighty Alberto has taken a 2nd chunk out of his hand you know
matty18714 Posted - 29/06/2009 : 20:24:48
Thats what you get for being so low on the food chain
Kazerella Posted - 29/06/2009 : 20:21:12
Not 'phib killers!!!!
matty18714 Posted - 29/06/2009 : 15:41:39
I think the laws are as GP said, you can catch them and keep them personaly, but you cant sell them.

Mart - you can only sell them if you can prove they are the third generation of CB (from a wc pair).

And as Kaz said, just leave them be. They eat 'phibs (most of which are protected anyway) so are hard to keep.
Kazerella Posted - 29/06/2009 : 12:04:49
I'd leave them in the wild really, just because they are slightly endangered. Don't think they have full status yet, but their numbers are in decline.

Was reading a thread on 'the dark side' yesterday regarding this. Apparantly the regulations are that you can catch and keep grass snakes but you aren't allowed to sell the first generation of babies. If you then breed the first generation of babies together you can sell their offspring as CB. Only problem is that you have to be able to prove all of the above. Try to PM Natrix on the dark side as he keeps grass snakes and all of that info came from him

lol, shame about the regulations
