Posted - 30/07/2012 : 14:25:16 I'm pretty new to snakes, I used to be really frightened of them having spent a number of years in Africa BUT earlier this year a friend started introducing me to his snakes, working up slowly but surely from small young snakes right up to his 6 foot boa.
I got myself a corn a few months later because I felt this was the species for me. I then decided I'd like a reverse okeetee because I just liked the colour, so I found one and got one of those.
But I've spent the last few months lurking on various forums and looking into Kings. They seem a lot more "interesting" than corns and although I think they could be a bit more feisty than my usually laid back placid corns, I quite admire the attitude.
So I want one! And I found one - just a baby but everyone's got to start somewhere right??
Anyway my "problem" is this; I'm only "allowed" a maximum of 2 snakes - so I either sell my original corn (not parting with the reverse okee) to get the baby king OR I don't get the king.
What should I do? There is absolutly NO WAY my OH would tolerate any more snakes in the house - I have a number of other animals as it is and I'm "lucky" to have two. I don't intend breeding either species, just keeping, observing, interacting and loving them.
Ideas on a postcard - QUICKLY because the chap holding the gorgeous king for me is running out of patience |

I'd say keep what you have. There will always be another King if the allowance changes.
spot on really |

Posted - 19/08/2012 : 19:17:51 I can kinda relate to this. I've always wanted a boa, and I can currently only afford one if I sell my MBK, but I've had her for like a month and however tempted I get to sell her I just can't because firstly I don't think I could part with her and secondly I know it's not really fair on her, so i'm just biting the bullet and waiting till I have enough to keep two of them :') |

Posted - 30/07/2012 : 22:48:03 I can't part with her, she's just had her first fluff and I'm like a proud Mum!!
I'm going to have to sneak the king in, I do have an empty viv it's a little one (only 2 foot) so I'll just have to set it up with lots of hides and plenty of coverage for my new king |

Posted - 30/07/2012 : 22:37:53 I was going to "sell" her but I can't, giving her to a friend is the next best thing to keeping her BUT I've had her out for most of this evening and still don't know if I'll be able to part with her :-( |

Posted - 30/07/2012 : 19:22:28 no it's NOT fair to get rid of one just because I've seen another one I'd like but when I got my snakes I didn't know anything, I kind of rushed into it and with her being so small I know it won't do her a huge amount of harm to move her now.
Ideally I'd like one example of every species BUT that's just not going to happen.
So I thought it would be nice to have one corn and one king. I do a lot of school visits and feel it would work well having more than one species.
I don't really know what I'm going to do, a few friends have offered to have my corn so I wouldn't be loosing touch with her and I know full well she'd be very well cared for, but I am very fond of her.
Like I said, tough decision |

Posted - 30/07/2012 : 17:28:12 It's really your call. I think you'd be best keeping what you've got and working on your OH some more
Personally I'd love to have this wee one in my collection but I've pushed my OH to the limit. 1 snake turned to 2, then 3 and now I have 11
Next snake will probably cost me my marriage |
