Posted - 24/07/2012 : 14:28:05 Cheers Brian. I rechecked this batch of 'large' and they average only 20 grams. They are never the same weight twice in a row as the pet shop has several suppliers. |

Posted - 24/07/2012 : 09:34:43 I'd definately be changing his food to one XL/jumbo mouse every 14 days. It's ideal for adult kingsnakes. |

Posted - 24/07/2012 : 00:50:06 I did a measure and weigh in of my crew today. Although the last post on Fester's shedding gave a skin length of a perfect 64", he's actually coming in at 53" & 4" girth using the string method. Weight is 825 grams on the kitchen scales which are accurate when checked against a bag of sugar. He's on 1 x largish mouse about 25~27 grams weekly for now. Sounds heavy but really looks fine and meaty and not fat. The mouse actually looks kinda small judging by the way it slipped down.
Oh! He started acting like a kitten with the string and gave me two nips on the knuckles. Not savage bites, just playful 'grips'. Ha-ha!
Edit: Little bugger! I just found another set of marks, make it 3 playful grips. |

Posted - 23/07/2012 : 22:51:53 My male MBK is about the same age and length and he weighs just over 400g. My female is 6 years old and she weighs around 600g. The male is abit longer than the female but she is about double the girth or him. Two totally different shaped MBKs. Both are fed either one jumbo/XL mouse or small rat weiner every 2 weeks. Initially I would say yours is quite heavy for a 3 year old MBK if I am comparing him to my male but definately not obese but every snake grows at different rates and as yours was probably overfed before you got him then this would explain why. What you are feeding him now is perfect so his weight will work itself out over time.
Have you posted pics before? I can't recall. If not it's mandatory round these parts |
