Posted - 15/02/2011 : 11:23:38 Hi everyone, I am a first time snake owner, got two Californian King Snakes, male and female, the male is an albino and almost 2m long, the female is brownish and about 1,7m.
I got them about 7 months ago, the female has always been easy going and easy to handle, the male used to be easy to handle, he became very aggresive lately, everytime when i want to handle him, he strikes at me :( and now i am too scared to try to handle him lol
what could cause him to be aggressive lately, are the albino snakes easy to handle in general?
When they bite how painful is it? Should i let him bite me to show him that I am not scared of him?
Any suggestions would be highly appeciated. Will upload pics as soon as i figure out how to upload etc. |

Posted - 01/03/2011 : 12:49:40 Do you let him come to you? mine was a sod if i tryed to pick him up so i just open the glass now and let him come to me. as for the bites, no they dont hurt, it does make you jump though lol. the best i can discribe it is its like sand paper being twisted tight round where he gets you. takes a while to stop the blood though if he wont let go, slide a plastic card between his top teeth and your skin |

most snakes will strike until they are picked up. once in your hands he will probably calm down. you can use a glove to pick him up then you can remove it.
good luck |

Posted - 18/02/2011 : 10:13:39 Hi Rod Thanx for the feedback, appreciate it. He strikes at me everytime I slide the glass window open, he never used to do it though. Will take it slow and handle him more |

Posted - 17/02/2011 : 09:58:33 Hi I have 2 california King snake both Male they never bit but when I had corn snakes they used to bit. Its not painfull at all. If he manige to bite you dont pull your hand back because you can damage his teeth, let him realese by him self. and don't be scared to handle since if you don't handle your snake he will become more aggressive. |

Posted - 15/02/2011 : 15:54:14 My male gets very striky and bitey when he knows there's a female around that could be receptive. Lasts a couple/few weeks.
Could possibly be something similar to that. |
