He's been a bit of a feisty one the past week or so, and this is the first time he's done anything that I could feel, he's 'tasted' me before but that didn't even break the skin, this time he was a little blighter.

I have no idea why he's been doing that, but in the past 3-4 days he has gone for every bit of bare flesh possible.

I decided to give him some grub early, just in case he was overly peckish.

He was trying, but he is not strong enough to take me on.

Poor Trio- he should have at least been given the opportunity to chew right down to the bone

nice one, good for trio, and for you, but make sure he is on probation for a while
Kehhlyr Posted - 12/04/2010 : 21:49:42
Trio let me get him out the other day without trying to bite me, so I'm assuming he's back to his normal chilled out self.
There was no quick head movements or coiling ready to bite, so his asbo period seems to have passed.

Seems to me he still likes pinkies

That was indeed Janos, yes.
He's a superb escape artist.

When you mention him escaping last year, was that the time you and Trio got a mention on the BBC News website?

Kehhlyr Posted - 27/03/2010 : 02:11:16
I was a bit unsure at first, then just thought "sod it, it's gonna happen one day but at least I know it's gonna happen this time" so just went to pick him up.

At least your not too bothered about getting bitten by a king. They really don't hurt at all
Kehhlyr Posted - 26/03/2010 : 14:27:01
He had a short period over the winter where he didn't eat, 6 weeks to be more exact, but wasn't brumated.
As much as I'd love to give him to a lady for a short while I can't take that risk. Like I said, his muscle damage on his tail including the vent and for about another 3 inches towards his head is to much, he may end up doing the job then not being able to retract the hemipene properly.
He's a good lad really, my my hands are a small price to pay.

Has he been in brumation at all? Was he feeding okay over the brumation period (if he wasn't in brumation) Hopefully once we hit May/June time he would of calmed down. Do you know anybody who has a female Cali, just save your fingers?

I know he can take a jumbo mouse, but the problems he has pooing afterwards are daft.
I am one of the lucky ones to have 2 rescue kings, both with tail damage of some kind, Trio had quite severe burns and partially digested tail which has left him with little muscle ability at his vent so sometimes he has real difficulty passing the waste.
He's been like this for a short while, I shall monitor for the next week or 2 as it is just more likely that he is just going through horny times a bit later than my other snakes.

My thought would be time of year or perhaps a larger food size is now needed?
