Posted - 25/02/2010 : 19:09:13 I would up the feeding and try feeding outside the vivarium for a while.
If it stops associating the door opening as a possible feeding time then it may become more responsive.
Try not to be frightened. Snakes can sense when you are agitated so will become scared. This would make it act more defensively. Try to stay calm and confident and hopefully he will settle down again. |

Also, What is it being kept in? How are you going into to retrieve him? Any chance from above? If so, he could feel he's being threatened. More information would be appreciated.
Kind Regards, Scott |

Posted - 27/10/2009 : 16:32:58 definately sounds like a hungry snake, ours is only 4 - 5 months old and is on 2 large pinkies every 6 days. Snakes can get defensive of their home so maybe handle him a bit more? They could also get more aggressive or defenceive if theyre about to shed |

Posted - 27/10/2009 : 16:19:33 I agree with Jono. If you are feeding it pinkies at over a year old it will definitely be hungry. My first piece of advice would be to offer it a bigger meal |

Posted - 27/10/2009 : 11:56:36 just to get the situation right... are you still feeding it pinkies when it is a lot over a year old? It could be hungry! Also, when snakes start to associate you with food then they can develop a conditioned feeding response, that is to say that they will automatically think of food every time you come near the cage as that is what they have learned to expect, you can try and stop this by regularly doing things in the cage which dont involve feeding, such as spot cleaning and regular handling. Also, it could be some sort of response to the changing season... |
