Hi guys
I've had my variable king rescue for about 4-5 months and I've enjoyed him more than I even thought I would! I have the opportunity to take another rescue (Honduran) but want to know a little more before I take the plunge. Now I know these guys can get quite large. Its currently 3.5feet, maybe a little more. Its a little jumpy but quite handleable How large could it get and what size enclosure would you go for? Any other tips?
Cheers
Mat

Hi again Tri

Woah...8 feet, ok that’s getting scary big! - At 6 feet what are we talking food wise...it would be eating adult rats I guess? Is the size a snake grows to down to its genetics or its nurture would you say!? Obviously not knowing this animals history it makes it difficult to predict but I think an 8 foot snake could be pushing the boundaries of acceptability some what :-/ !

Not a problem Matt.

When I say a yearling, He could be anywhere from 12-24 months old, Push comes to shove a few months! I've worked with big snakes, and Hondurensis is the biggest snake I have ever and still do own. I wouldn't say they are big, Once they reach there potential, They tend to clam down a hell of alot, and you don't think it's 6ft at all. There is somebody on an other forum who owns a near 8ft Honduran.

Anything else, drop me an email.

All the best,
Scott

Thanks forthe info Tri. I would never of thought he was only a yearling so thats interesting to know. 6 feet is a big snake huh! - I certaily think its seems to have a good temparement, a little jumpy but once in the hands calmer. Its certainly a stunner looks wise and seems in very good shape. Ok then, time to think about how I can house this guys I think!:-)

Hi Matt,

Hondurensis can reach up to 6ft, Usually maxing out at 5ft however. I keep mine in 3ft Tubs, However if a Vivarium is what you use, I would reccomend a 3 or a 4ft vivarium. As like all Milksnakes, Very fast once young but calm down with regualar handling. At 3.5ft, He sounds like a yearling. He should be at the stage of calming down now, but being a rescue, theres no right or wrong answer!

Scott
