Thanks to dazb for letting me pinch this from tcs for tks.

I thought i would post these pictures showing why I think guards are essential.

If this was a unguarded lamp it could have resulted in the corn being burnt very badly if it had decided to wrap round the lamp and stay there...

Great pics, and it is true. My childrens pythoms and IJ regularly do this...Guards are a must!

Some good pictures there Lee to prove the point. I was once advised by a shop that I wouldn't need a bulb guard as the snake wouldn't be stupid enough to get that close and even if it did burn itself it would only do it the once

At the end of the day, bulb guards are essential!
