Posted - 26/04/2012 : 19:15:37 Hopefully I will get some advice on here.
I got a snake off my boss's son 3 months ago and was told it was a corn snake so i did all my research, as i have wanted a snake for ages. When he came I named him Basil (short for Basilisk and the name of the snake in clockwork orange film). he is 3 years old but was very underfed so i feed him rat cubs every week but at some point will build him up to fuzzies. He is so tame and is eating, toileting and shedding fine.
Now it turns out that he is NOT a corn snake but an albino Californian King Snake. I have just found this out today and was shocked to say the least! Doesn't mean I love him any less though! But I now need to do a crash course in king care but need as much advice from king owners as possible. What differences might there be in having a king to having a corn snake?
Here is a pic. so sorry about the quality but it was taken on the only camera i own, my i phone.

Posted - 30/04/2012 : 13:50:59 hey thanks Guys. really appreciate your advice :-) He can be grumpy when i feed him sometimes and haven't risked not using the tongs yet lol. In fact he bit me a few times on saturday cos i tried to pick him up and he was more interested in getting some food. other than that he is really friendly. He loves snuggling into my hair and curling round my shoulders |

Posted - 27/04/2012 : 15:09:58 I keep my MBK the exact same as I keep my corns, I just upped my temps to 30/31 on my stat. I find my king is much nicer to watch and handle than my corns, just he can be a bit unpredictable around food!
Not the first time a king has been mis labelled and called a corn lol, and won't be the last! |
