Don't expect overnight success, be patient. rather than picking him up let him come out the viv on his own.

Good luck

My Cali King now 17yrs old bit me last week, i was handling the other lizards and forgot to wash my hands. Normally i put my arm in the viv , he slides up my arm and around my shoulders.

This time he went up my arm, quickly turned round and bit me. It took 15 minutes with his head under a running cold tap to get him off.

nippy they are, but my fault this time.

i know but only camera i got is on my phone :-(. graduated him up to fuzzies today so he's sleeping off his meal. Once he's settled I'll get some more pics of him. He seems to have grown recently so may be starting to get ready to shed again. Looking at ur earlier comments about musking too. When I first got Basil he musked me for the first few weeks but now he knows me and knows my smell I don't get that anymore. Thank God cos it was a revolting stench - reminded me of rotting fish!!! eewww.

After finding out mine was not a corn but an albino/snow king I am now aware of why he does have more of a tendancy to nip and draw a bit of blood. But on the upside he can also be incredibly soft and loves to snuggle into me when he is feeling in a good mood. Was grumpy with me yesterday but I'm gonna try the sock approach too and see if it will calm him down. Check out my pics on my own links if you get a chance. Good luck with him.

I rescued mine from a kid who didn't want him and i have called him Basil, but he is a boy and until they've been sexed you can't really tell can you? lol. But if you're not bothered in breeding just give him a name that you think suits him.

They vary in size a lot. It's not a definite sign of age. There are some users on this forum with snakes twice the age and half the size of others.

To tell how old they are, you have to chop them in half and count the rings in the middle.

... That was a joke, please don't do that.

well he has just shed his skin and i was told he was between 6 and 7 mnths old when i bought him but was up at pets at home on sunday and they said he is 14-15 weeks old they showed me another desert king who was 5mths old and it was way bigger

Keep on persevering :) I've got a Desert King too, he looks very similar to yours, if a bit bigger. With a bit of patience yours should calm down.

Hi, just a few thing to think about: Make sure you have washed your hands before you handle your King snake, so it does not misinterpret you as FOOD =)) . Try to wash your hands in the same soap every time so your King gets familiar with and links that smell with you. Don't grab it from the "head side", but make sure your snake is aware that you are around. Grab it about mid-body and support it with both hands. How old is your King?

Good Luck and Don't give up!

cloudy/cottage cheese is the urates (sp?) which is wees- when you get pooped on it will look like digested mouse- more 'meaty'. (hope nobody's reading this while eating supper.......
